Office Restoration and Reestablishment

An Architectural Office

Rio, Greece

2003

Proposal for the restoration and reestablishment of a 140 sqm historic stone home with a collapsed roof and extensive damage to the walls. The property is located a short distance from Rio's port, on a side road that connects to the major route with directions to Patras and Athens.

The goal is to keep the building's original design while also incorporating elements of modern architecture. The development of a new roof aids in these features, while the juxtaposition of the building's modern and old designs emphasizes its distinctiveness, making it special. Rather than restoring, the plan is to remodel. The floor and walls are fixed for the final solution, and a metallic skeleton incorporating rafters and props is erected as the new roof. Because the internal height of the home is 6.5 meters, it is conceivable to erect a second storey at 2 meters on a metallic framework, generating more usable space. The structure is no longer a residence and has been converted into a workspace for an architectural design firm.
