A Museum for the University

Patras, Greece

2003

A concept for a 6200 sqm museum dedicated to polytechnic schools, including numerous exhibitions and talks. Each department show is separated into two parts: practical and theoretical. There are additional commercial facilities (shops), projection rooms, and offices in the building.

The museum is situated on a plot of land near Patras University. One of the main highways in the University region runs through the bigger side of the land. The initial idea was to create a fundamental path along which all of the Museum's spaces/areas would be coordinated. The displays of the University schools were located on the bigger side of the land, which can be accessible from the central corridor that runs the length of the building. The displays of the University schools were located on the bigger side of the land, which can be accessible from the central corridor that runs the length of the building. Films about issues pertinent to each school are projected on the exhibition's outside walls. The storage areas, hygiene areas, and administrative offices form an open fan that follows the triangle pattern of the property. Finally, in the building's open area, there is a platform for various sorts of activities and lectures.
