Antirrio Culture Park

Antirrio New Sea Front

A New Bridge Area Reformation

Antirrio, Greece

2003

The location lies in Aitoloakarnania's beach town of Antirrio. This is one of three major regions surrounding the Rio - Antirrio Bridge.

The plan is on an urban-design scale because the location is renowned throughout the region for its historical and cultural assets. Due to the vastness of the sites, the goal is to divide them into smaller regions for better area planning. Special layouts are planned with its unique morphological qualities, the present usage of the land, and the neighbouring regions that will be transformed in mind. These layouts are linked to the Rio - Antirrio Bridge in a unique way. The resulting solution addresses four issues:

(1) Historical Region, (2) Recreational Facility, (3) Research Field, and (4) Area of Nations

All parts appear to sag towards the centre of a "ring." An open-air theatre and a tiny belvedere are added to the ring area, with views of the sea and Patras. The ring's design is based on the artificial auxiliary spaces produced during the building of the bridge's first pillar.
